William Moore, safety for the Atlanta Falcons, hurt his ankle playing the Carolina Panthers. While the injury came in the first quarter, news has now come down that he is out of the game and won’t return to face the undefeated Carolina Panthers.
It’s kind of brutal to say, but this honestly doesn’t matter at this point. The Falcons haven’t been playing any defense to start with. It’s 38 to 0 in favor of the Panthers, who are undefeated and looking like the best team to ever take the field—at least against Atlanta. With or without Moore, this team is getting torched.
It will be a problem if he’s out for an extended amount of time. For today, though, why not just sit him? It could be that the team asked that same question at halftime, already down 28-0. Perhaps that’s why they kept mulling this over since the injury happened and then just now decided that he wasn’t going to play. If it’s a three-point game, maybe he’s back in there, but there’s really no point in making a guy gut it out just so that he can lose by 40 points.
This loss is incredible when you think back to the first month and a half of the season. The Falcons were undefeated, as were the Panthers, and they were tied for the lead in the division. Julio Jones was playing incredible football. Now, they’ve absolutely fallen off the map and they don’t even look like they belong in the same league as the Panthers. It’s like watching a college team try to take on a pro team and just fail in every possible way.
