Atlanta Falcons’ linebacker Justin Durant has been hurt in the game against the undefeated Carolina Panthers, and reports from the team indicate that it is an oblique injury. He may be back, as they’ve officially labelled him questionable to return, but his day could also be over.

Durant has posted 72 tackles so far this season. It’s been a resurgent season for him, as he only posted 49 tackles last year and 24 tackles the season before that, both of which he spent with the Dallas Cowboys. The Falcons have not played well as of late, but Durant has almost as many tackles this year as he did in all of 2013 and 2014 combined.
His best season, though, was with the Detroit Lions in 2012, when he posted 104 tackles. He also put up 98 in 2009, when he was with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
For the Falcons, this is a win they’d love to get against the rival Panthers. Though the Falcons aren’t going to do anything significant this season, it would be something to ruin the Panthers’ chances at a perfect season. That alone may help them end the year with some optimism, after the collapse they’ve had in the second half of the season.
They have a shot to do it, too, as the game is tied at seven at the half. If they can keep it close and stay in striking distance, they’ll be in play for the rest of the afternoon. Clearly, they’re hoping they can get Durant some medical attention during the half and have him on the field when the third quarter begins.
