Injured RB Eddie Lacy was not at practice with the Packers today. According to the report below, there are some who don’t think he’ll be able to play at all on Thursday Night Football, as the Packers take on the rival Bears.
Lacy was injured even before the game against the Dallas Cowboys. With James Starks also hurt, though, he still had to take 17 carries and he put up 65 yards. He did not score as the Packers lost badly, falling at home by a score of 30-16.
Before that game, there was talk that the Packers were going to have to use Ty Montgomery and Randall Cobb – both wideouts – as running backs. While that may work to provide a spark or give Lacy a rest, they don’t want to run them as the main backs. They’re not used to it, for one thing, and it also takes away from a passing game that is already struggling.
However, news broke this morning that the Packers had traded for Chiefs’ running back Knile Davis. He used to be the No. 2 back for the Chiefs, getting a good amount of touches when Jamaal Charles was hurt, but he’s largely been replaced in that role over the last year and a half. He had been asking for a trade.
Davis just joined the team today, so it would be a bit strange to see him taking snaps in a game just two days later. However, the Packers may have little choice but to work him in, hoping he can learn the offense as he plays.
