Broncos’ LB DeMarcus Ware not expecting to play

It appears Broncos’ LB DeMarcus Ware won’t be back this week. He was hoping to come back and play the Houston Texans – and former Broncos’ QB Brock Osweiler – but he doesn’t think he’s going to. That could change between now and the game, of course. He did say the x-rays were good, but he simply doesn’t want to rush back when there’s so much more football to be played.

Ware has a broken arm. He ran into Von Miller while the two were rushing Colts’ QB Andrew Luck in Week 2. The Broncos won that game, but they have since gone 2-2 without Ware, beating the Bengals and the Bucs before falling to the Falcons and the Chargers. The team is trying to get back on track against the Texans, who are now coming off of a win over the Colts.

One thing that has been much different without Ware is the way the defense begins games. They always start slow. They gave up a TD on the second drive to the Bucs, and they let all three other teams score on their opening drives. The Chargers sliced through them last week, on their way to a TD for rookie TE Hunter Henry, and it really set the tone for the game.

Ware missed a lot of time last year with a back injury. While a broken arm is much different, it’s clear that he knows the value of working to really get healthy before the playoffs, even if that means delaying his return.
